Efficiency and Armor: The Mechanical Core
Update 41: The Old Peace has finally addressed the aging kit of Oberon. For years: players complained that Oberon was too “energy hungry” and lacked the scaling to survive in the Steel Path. The developers have responded by slashing the energy drain of his core abilities. Renewal now costs 30 percent less energy per second to maintain: even when multiple allies and summons are being healed.
The most significant change affects Iron Renewal. Previously: the armor buff provided by standing on Hallowed Ground was a flat value. Now: this armor bonus scales aggressively with Ability Strength. With a high-strength build: Oberon can provide over 1,200 bonus armor to his entire squad. This pushes his effective health pool into the territory of dedicated tanks like Inaros or Chroma: making him a viable “Paladin” choice for endgame content again.
Synergy with the New Demon Meta
Oberon’s rework arrived at the perfect time to complement the new Warframe: Uriel. Uriel’s demon summons often struggle with health management in high-level missions. Oberon’s Renewal now treats these demons as “allied units” with full healing efficiency. This allows Oberon to act as a battery for Uriel: keeping the demonic trio alive while they charge the Brimstone gauge.
Furthermore: Reckoning received a hidden buff. The armor stripping effect now applies instantly to any enemy standing on Hallowed Ground: regardless of whether they are lifted by the initial cast. This makes Oberon one of the fastest armor strippers in the game: especially when facing the new Prime Vanguard enemies introduced in the Perita Rebellion.
Community Verdict: A Solid B-Tier or a New King?
The reaction on Reddit and the official Warframe forums has been mostly positive: but with some tactical reservations. Long-time Oberon mains are celebrating the “quality of life” changes. They point to the energy economy as the biggest win: as it allows them to drop Efficiency mods in favor of more Range and Strength.
- The Scaling Debate: Critics on the forums argue that while the armor is better: Oberon still lacks the “gate” mechanics of frames like Revenant. They claim that in Level 9999 content: 1,200 armor still isn’t enough to prevent a one-shot.
- Passive Fatigue: Some players are disappointed that his passive ability (related to companion health) was not changed. They feel it remains one of the weakest passives in the game compared to newer frames.
- Range Issues: A common request in the feedback threads is for a larger base radius on Hallowed Ground. Players find it frustrating to constantly “re-carpet” the floor to keep the Iron Renewal buff active on mobile teammates.
Despite the criticism of his passive: the consensus is that Oberon is no longer “mastery fodder.” He has reclaimed his spot as the premier aggressive healer. He can now strip armor: buff squad survivability: and manage his energy without relying on heavy external consumables.
